A rectangular pool, a covered pavilion and a stone-edged terrace, set out so the whole rear elevation of the house reads as one outdoor room.
The brief here was a rear yard that worked as a single space rather than a series of disconnected areas. The pool sits square to the house, with the coping line picked up by the terrace paving so the geometry carries all the way back to the pavilion.
The covered pavilion does the heavy lifting. It gives the family a shaded seating area and an outdoor bar that stays usable through the middle of an Ohio summer, and it anchors the far corner of the yard so the pool does not sit in open ground.
Stone veneer on the pavilion piers ties back to the house, and clipped shrubs along the pool fence keep the planting low enough that nothing competes with the water. Everything is built on a proper base with the rain runoff planned before the first paver was set.
